ABCD Sydney Summer Meet-Up :: Save the Date

Sydney art, craft and design bloggers mark the evening of Thursday 21st February in your diaries to join us for our abcd summer meet-up. Steph (Bondville) and I have organised this abcd meet-up in conjunction with Life Instyle. We’ll be meeting for a glass of bubbles on the opening night of this fabulous trade-only lifestyle event. As part of the abcd meet-up we’ll have access to check out all the exhibitors’ stands and the latest products and trends. We will follow this up after the show with panel discussions featuring some of our fave Life InStyle exhibitors. If you’re curious about trade shows and wanting to take your business to the next level of wholesaling this is one not to miss. We’re excited that Life InStyle has offered our abcd meet-up access to their trade only event – usually only retail buyers, wholesale stall holders and press can attend – and we’d love you to join us.

I’ll post full details and RSVP info next week. But for now, save the date!

If you haven’t been to one of our abcd meet-ups before you check out my previous posts.

abcd Sydney meet-up :: Spring

On Saturday we held our quarterly abcd meet-up for art craft and design bloggers and this time we were joined by a group from the Sydney Instagram meet-up. Steph (Bondville) and I had planned and styled the meet-up around the theme of a vintage-inspired afternoon tea in the park. Unfortunately the weather conspired against us – Saturday morning dawned and it was cool and wet. Not great conditions for the park. Then… jewellery designers and bloggers Tess and Anna of Polli came to the rescue and kindly offered their studio as a venue. And it was perfect.

About 26 of us enjoyed a lovely afternoon of chatting, laughing, sharing and eating delicious home baked treats. Sweet Jane’s Travelling Tea House was there with tea, coffee and yummy berry punch. See the photos below of the gorgeous pink polka dot caravan? That’s Sweet Jane’s. So much fun. We had some time in small groups led by the Instagram girls Jaclyn (Little Paper Trees), Jayde (Little Paper Lane) and Rebecca (Wee Birdy) to discuss how we use Instagram, privacy, micro blogging, and Instagram as a business tool.

Sydney ABCD Meet-Up :: Let’s talk about Instagram

You may be over Facebook. Twitter is just 140 characters, and Pinterest is a bit of a solitary pursuit. But are you on Instagram? This social media platform is tailor-made for those of us who are more visual by nature – it’s about communicating with images instead of just words. Instagram is full of interesting, creative people sharing happy things. Interested to hear more, or in sharing your thoughts?

Perfect! Steph of Bondville and I have organised an Instagram-themed Sydney abcd meet-up! We’ll be meeting for a leisurely vintage inspired afternoon tea on Saturday 3rd November from 3 – 5pm in Lilyfield’s Callan Park. Bring along something sweet to share; tea and coffee will be available to purchase from Sweet Jane’s Travelling Teahouse (a gorgeous vintage caravan. Fun!) And, we’ll be joined by the Sydney Instagram Meet-up folks led by Jaclyn of Little Paper Trees and Jayde of Little Paper Lane.

There’ll be lots of interesting new people to meet from the Sydney Instagram group, and for those who are interested, we’ll dedicate about 40 minutes to small-group discussions. The aim is to share ideas and learn more about Instagram and how to use it as a personal and professional tool. Each group will be led by one of our friends from the Sydney Instagram group who’ll share their insights and expertise.

Are you in?  RSVP in the comments section of this post to join us. We’re not doing goodie bags this time, instead we’d appreciate you bringing a plate of something homemade to share for afternoon tea.

We would also love for you to provide us with some feedback on Sydney abcd meet-ups in our online survey. If you weren’t able to fill the survey out at our last meet-up, please click here to share your thoughts on how we can make abcd work best for you.

Steph and I have had fun organising this one and we hope to see you there – it’s going to be a lovely afternoon.

Sydney abcd winter wrap up

Our abcd bloggers meet-up was held last week and judging from the feedback it was a huge success. I think it’s so great that all these wonderful women who blog about art, craft and design come together to meet and share. Sharing was our theme this time and we had some great and lively small group discussions where ideas, experiences and thoughts were offered and exchanged. It was really enjoyable and enriching to hear everyone’s input on the various topics.

Our goodie bags were also based on the theme of sharing for this meet-up, and the contributions were thoughtful and creative. They included some delicious recipes, gorgeous stationery and even a stamp from a thoughtful lass, lots of lists including great tips and links, fabric, and a vintage hanky with a little note saying “Do share your happy tears. Don’t share your sniffles”. So perfect for our winter ‘sharing’ meet-up!

The goodie bags are always a highlight, but the best part is making connections and creating a community amongst like minded women who we usually only know through our online lives. We had a lot of new faces at this meet up which was lovely. Unfortunately neither Steph or I managed to snap any photos of the actual event – a terrible oversight! Next time we plan to get that organised. You can see photos of our last meet-up – our Saturday Soiree - here. A big thank you as always to Steph of Bondville who spends time planning and organising with me to make the abcd meet-ups happen. Stay tuned for our next abcd meet-up in a few months.

abcd winter meet-up :: Sharing in Sydney

It’s time to mark your diary for the next Sydney abcd meet-up for art, craft and design bloggers which will be on Thursday 16 August.  Our meet-ups are about creating and nurturing a sense of community, support and connection, so this time we have distilled our raison d’etre into a theme: ‘Sharing’.

Our abcd group is full of lovely and talented women who must have a wealth of information and things they could share with each other. With this in mind, we will set aside about 45 minutes where we can discuss, in small groups, some fun and informative topics related to blogging. We’ll all get the chance to share our ideas and we will be swapping groups every 6 or so minutes so that we get to meet everyone. Of course, in the spirit of our meet-ups it will all be fun and informal. We have lined up some of our abcd girls to be ‘conversation starters’ for the groups. They will initiate discussion on a topic of their choice. The topics may include things like:
How I have grown my blog audience
How I stay inspired when things slow down
What promotional tools I use for my business
What I love most about what I do
Should I keep up with my blog or just use Facebook?

We’ll email everyone closer to the date with the group topics so you can have a think about what you’d like to contribute to the discussions. Make sure you join our mailing list (if you haven’t already) to be updated. We think this will be a great way to learn from each other and to get us all up and mingling! We’re looking forward to hearing what everyone has to share.

In keeping with our ‘sharing’ theme we are changing up the ever popular goodie bags for this meet-up. This time we thought goodie bag contributions could be about sharing something a little more personal. Some ideas are: share a copy of your favourite recipe, a meaningful quote, something you have made, a lovely photo you’ve taken, your go-to online resources, your favourite places to hang out in Sydney, or your favourite treat. Be creative with how you present it. Make it something you love. Share it with your abcd friends! Of course please include your blog/website/shop details etc with your goodie. The goodie bags are about people remembering you and we love to follow up with an online visit! Remember, no marketing promotion please – while abcd is a place for sharing we aren’t all about promotion – in the goodie bags, or in person.

Goodie bag participation is optional, but you will only receive one if you add something to the bags. Remember to RSVP with GOODIE BAG PARTICIPANT before 12th August so we can tally up the numbers and let all the participants know. There usually around 30 goodie bags, so if you want to get a head start use that as a rough guide, although be prepared to bring more if needed.

We want to make abcd events relevant, accessible and enjoyable and we want to hear what you have to say. So at this meet-up we’ll hand out a short survey for you to fill out on the night. We’re keen to know how we can improve our meet-ups and help you get to know each other in a meaningful way. If you’ve been to abcd before and can’t make it to this one, you’ll be able to do the survey online after the event.

Venue: The 3 Weeds (the cosy back room), 193 Evans St, Rozelle, NSW
Date: Thursday 16th August
Time: 7 – 9pm
RSVP:  for goodie bags by 12th August
without goodie bags up until 16th Aug
*This time Steph is collecting RSVPs on her blog so we have them all in one place. Please pop over to Steph’s post on Bondville to RSVP. Thanks!

Street parking is limited in Rozelle so try to arrive early and have a drink or some food at the bar, or take public transport. Buses run up Victoria Road regularly, just get off at the BP at Evans St. In the spirit of ‘sharing’ we also want to encourage you to car pool. You never know – there might be someone who lives right near you! If you’d like to car pool or need a lift make a note of it together with your suburb/area on your RSVP.

Hope you can make it. We’d love to see you!

abcd Sydney is organised by me (Lisa) and Steph of Bondville.

abcd :: the wrap up

Steph and I were very excited to host our recent abcd Saturday Soirée, and even more so to see everyone there enjoying the afternoon. We had lots of fun putting it all together including making decorations and styling the event in our pastels and sparkles theme. There was a lot of behind the scenes organising and crafting going on!

The Ruby L’otel venue was perfect for our get together: light and bright, and relaxed. Anni from Milk & Honey Photography took lots of gorgeous photos which do the soirée more justice than my words can…

Steph and I have lots of fun putting the abcd events together – thanks Steph for everything! And thank you to everyone who came along, dressed in pastels and sparkles, and made the Soirée such fun. If you’re an artist, blogger, crafter or designer and would like to join us next time you can find abcd here.  Yay!
